Ivan Terestchenko (1958–), Nocturnes, photographic prints, 1991, gift of the artist
Ivan Terestchenko is a Franco-British photographer. He studied Art History at the École du Louvre and taught drawing while pursuing his own artistic practice as a painter. He published his first photographs in Vogue in 1989 and subsequently contributed to leading interior design magazines, including the renowned The World of Interiors.
Over the course of his career, Terestchenko has photographed the homes of numerous prominent figures in the worlds of art and fashion. In 2009, he photographed the residences of the fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent (1936–2008) and the businessman Pierre Bergé (1930–2017) for the publication Les Paradis secrets d’Yves Saint Laurent et de Pierre Bergé.
In 1991, the Musée national commissioned Terestchenko to produce an artistic photographic report documenting the nocturnal atmosphere of the Château de Pau, after the staff and visitors had left for the night. His work, including his sculptural practice, has been exhibited in galleries in Paris.
These photographs were taken by an artist who was especially inspired by the atmosphere of the château at night. He plays with light and shadow to give the château’s façades an eerie appearance and the museum’s empty rooms a ghostly atmosphere.
