The cradle-shell of Henri IV

Why you see the cradle-shell here today

Exceptionally during the summer of 2022, the famous turtle shell, legendary cradle of the future Henri IV, is presented in the reception room, former throne room, where the baptism of this prince was celebrated in March 1554.

A precious decoration of gilded wood and embroidered textiles was sent in 1822 to adorn the turtle shell. It is currently undergoing major restoration and will not be put back in place until the fall.
